Five Tips On Choosing The Best Wedding Rings For Your Special Day

Wedding rings may be one of the most important items that you ever buy in your life, as if you get it right then you should be in for a lifetime of happiness, yet if you get it wrong, then you are really in trouble; if you are on the receiving end of a black eye from a fuming fiancee, just hope that your engagement ring doesn’t have a huge diamond!

It is painfully important for you to get the best wedding ring for your fiancee, yet it can also be incredibly painful for you to get the right one at the right price etc., etc.; also, seeing as you can’t just copy your mate’s seeing as everybody has their own individual style, matters are complicated further.

This article is set out to help you choose the right wedding ring and see if your purchase will leave you reaching for the champagne, or reaching for the phone to check your jeweller’s policy on refunds!

Firstly, the wedding ring has to symbolise your love for your partner, so the ring has to actually reflect what you know about them; if you know they love diamonds and all things that sparkle, then go out of your way to get a jewel encrusted ring, showing off your knowledge of their preferences.

Secondly, the price of the ring has to be optimum; you do not want to be ripped off, yet nobody likes a miser, so if you can afford three months salary, then this is a good guideline…although no fiancee will complain if you go a little over!

Thirdly, you should add a personal element to your ring; an inscription on the inside of the ring with a loving message is often the best way to personalise a ring, so think of a special phrase or word that symbolises your love.

Fourthly, wedding rings should stand out from all other pieces of jewellery, so if your fiancee already has a gold band on their finger, then try thinking outside the box and get something that really sticks out.

To end, wedding rings really are such an important element of the entire engagement process, so don’t be afraid to mull over your options for as long as you feel comfortable with; if it doesn’t feel right in your gut, then it won’t be right and you should hold out for a better one.

When people buy unique wedding rings they are often not aware of what to choose. That’s why buying from an online shop like DiamondGeezer.com makes sense because you can compare different rings in your own time and without any sales pressure.

Educating Yourself About Engagement Rings And Wedding Rings

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Educating yourself about engagement rings and wedding rings can be an eye-opening and cash-saving experience. Engagement and wedding rings aren’t tied to any season, but they seem to roll out the doors a bit more around Christmas or Valentine’s Day. But a good tip for anyone who is planning on purchasing one, is to go to the jewelry armed with at least a basic amount of knowledge in this area.

Once you begin your education, you’ll begin to see that there is some new terminology to learn, and some old terminology that you just thought you understood. Some of the terms used, if not understood, can cause you to pass over them, while others may seem to be misleading. But once you have a working knowledge of these things, it’s a much easier experience all the way around.

One of the terms you hear often in regards to diamonds, is the ‘cut’. Another is ’shape’. And many take for granted that these two mean the same thing, because you have to cut a diamond to get its shape. But in fact, while the shape is mainly the ‘contour’ line of the stone, the ‘cut’ is much more involved in the overall description. It takes is the depth and the width, and other facets that will affect the brilliance and durability of the stone.

Once you get your working knowledge of the stones, then you need to get familiar with settings. There are a lot of different types of settings, the most common being the ‘prong’ setting. And this setting itself comes in many variations. So again, it’s a good idea to do a little reading about the different types of prong settings, and find out which ones are best for which stones. This is very useful knowledge for shopping engagement rings and wedding rings.

Once you know the prong settings, then you can move on to the other settings that are available. There are the bezel, the channel, and invisible types of settings that it can be a good idea to know something about. Learning how to pair which setting with which stone can be a key part of getting the best value for the money you put out. Some settings can make a diamond appear to be larger than it actually is, and this is good to know.

One of the most common terms you’ll hear when shopping in jewellery stores is ‘clarity’. What this means is the presence or absence of flaws in the stone. Some of the flaws are on the surface, and some are within the diamond itself. Trying to find one that is perfect in clarity, is nearly impossible, and expensive. For the most part, these flaws can only be seen with a magnifying loupe and not with the naked eye.

Color plays a big part in choosing a diamond. Many who don’t understand about diamonds, believe they’re all clear and white. But this isn’t the case. It is a fact that the white diamond sets the standard by which the others are judged. So color is another area of study for the one who wants to understand diamonds.

Educating yourself about engagement and wedding rings can not only save money, but it can be a rewarding and interesting undertaking. It’s a subject that’s vast in the amount of knowledge you can gain if you dig deep enough. Many people have made it their hobby. And today is the age of easy information, so research is done much simpler than in times past. So do a little research, and get the ring you want, for the one you love.

What Determines the Price of Engagement Rings?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Giving engagement rings are an age old tradition when taking the big step toward marriage. Over the years, the price of engagement rings has fluctuated. This is due to the quality of the diamond. When choosing how much to pay for an engagement ring, one should have a good understanding of what determines the price of diamond engagement rings

The price of an engagement is based on the diamond that it holds, although the setting also plays a factor. The diamond industry determines the value based on what is known as the “Four C’s.” The “Four C’s” stands for Color, Cut, Clarity, and Caret.

The following outlines a description of the “Four C’s” when determining the price of an engagement ring:

Color: The color of a diamond is assessed based on the deepness of the color. The higher quality and more expensive diamonds are colorless. The more colorless a diamond is the more valuable it is. Grading is performed on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow.)

Cut: The “cut” of the diamond means how the diamond was shaped to permit light to reflect from it. In a fine cut diamond, light enters the diamond and reflects directly into the eye of the person looking at it through a microscope or other stone examining device.

Clarity: Clarity is determined by assessing any flaws inside the diamond. The fewer amount of flaws, the higher quality the diamond. The scale for grading diamond’s clarity is:

- Flawless (F): There are no inside or outside flaws.

- Internally Flawless (IF): There is a bit of outer flaws, but no inner flaws. Very Very Slightly Included (VVS1-VVS2): There are very tiny flaws that are hard to see when looking under a 10x magnification.

- Very Slightly Included (VS1-VS2): There very small flaws that one can see with some difficulty only under a 10x magnification.

- Slightly Included (SI1-SI2): There are flaws that can only be seen well under 10x magnification.

- Included (I1-I3): There are flaws that one can see when looking at with the naked eye.

Caret: The caret refers to the size of the diamond.

The following are some approximate prices of diamond engagement rings:

- $1,000 to $2,000: diamonds between .30 and .57 carats.

- $2,000 to $3,500: diamonds from .4 to 1 carat in 14 or 18 carat gold

- $3,500 to $5,000: 1 carat diamonds in 18 carat settings

Before you buy a diamond engagement ring, make sure you will be getting an AGS Certificate or a GIA Certificate. This will ensure you are getting a real diamond that is worth what you pay.

Giving a diamond engagement ring to your special love will make the engagement experience even more memorable and romantic. Before you purchase the engagement ring, it is important that you understand what goes into assigning a price to the ring. You should not have to spend more money than what the ring is worth as you will have other important expenses to think about as you and your love begin a life together.

The Importance of Jewelry Pendants In Many Cultures

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Why are jewelry pendants so culturally iconic?

It is clear that many women wear jewelry pendants for all kinds of reasons. Often they are worn as pieces of ornament to look beautiful. This trend is not confined to recent times but rather from time immemorial. Jewelry has long been associated with women for their personal beautification. The origin probably dates back to ancient times when beads and shells were used as body ornaments, while bones, wood, elephant tusk and ornamental stones were carved and etched to produce attractive artifacts.

Jewelry typically is split into two types – contemporary or traditional. Each has its own unique style and design. Both incorporate fine metals like gold, silver and other metals as well as natural materials and precious gems.

Jewelry has a wide and varied range of uses, from functional to flamboyant and all the way out to being used as status symbols. Nowadays more and better jewelry pendants are being designed by fine craftsmen whose cutting edge skills are creating even more original styles. You can discover stunning items in gold, silver and many other precious metals. Quality gem stones like diamonds are rushing back into the market again in a variety of great designs. Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, nose rings, amulets, bangles, anklets … you name it, if they ever went away, you can be sure that jewelry pendants are back!

The jewelry pieces of today are not just made from traditional metals. Today’s jewelry pendants utilize a vast array of materials including everything from wire and tumbled stone to many other lesser known components. They help to make low-cost, inexpensive but super-fashionable items loved by the masses and used widely as accoutrement to embellish their owner`s appearance.

Jewelry pendants are used all over the world. In some places such jewelry is still seen as a form of currency. This demonstrates the wealth and affluence of its owner.

Since ancient times, people have been accumulating jewelry as an expression of their wealth. This still goes on today. This probably originated with the false belief that amassing wealth of fine jewelry will somehow bring security against any economic downturn or other such unforeseeable circumstance.

You can see this today still in the form of wedding ceremonies. In Asian countries the attention continues to center around giving jewelry. Such exchanges of jewelry between the two parties reinforces the belief that jewelry brings security. In many countries, it remains a celebrated practice while in other lands, jewelry, especially ornaments of gold, symbolize a cultural group bonding. In many cultures including those of the west, the wearing of a ring might indicate marital status for their wearer.

Traditionally, the purity of American or European gold is quoted in terms of karats. American gold jewelry has an average of 10K purity. European gold tends to be around 9K. The Middle East, Asia and Africa offer gold jewelry of the highest purity. African gold is often as pure as 22K or 24K. Other precious metals such as platinum can be around 90% and 95% purity.

Items made from glass, enamel, and other such similar natural materials are known as costume jewelry. Such items as necklaces, bangles, earrings, bracelets and belts are also very popular, especially with youngsters. While they have always been a la mode in African countries, necklaces and bracelets have only been popular in the U.S. and Europe since the Victorian Era. Clearly, this trend has spread and it has become very popular all over the world now.

Collectors` items of jewelry pendants have been known to be made from first-class craftsmanship of silversmiths and goldsmiths. Tiaras, jewelry pendants and rings featuring dazzling diamonds have captivated the marketplace for years, especially within the wealthy class. Jewels and gems, besides diamonds, such as emerald, jade, sapphire, ruby and quartz have also been used to create outstandingly attractive jewelry pendants and other jewelry items.

The architypal hanging adornment, a classic pendant can come in an almost infinite variety of shapes, sizes and materials.

Jewelry pendants are stylish items loved by people of all ages. They can often be lovingly kept as a much-treasured family heirloom.

Their flexibility is another great quality, in that they can come in all shapes and sizes, using all kinds of materials. They can enhance other clothing items they are worn with. Just as they can be great for everyday wear, so they can make the perfect adornment to a fine female business suit.

These days, you can find pendants sold separate to their chain. Some pendants are made for this purpose, adding a pin-back and a loop for the chain. They are designed so you can wear them hanging from your brooch like a charm, or dangling from a necklace in the more traditonal way.

It is not hard or expensive to make your own pendants. Fashion pendants are often made from very inexpensive alloys of nickel and aluminum.

The simple combination of wire and beads can ensure that pendant jewelry making can be done in a snap? Few hobbies or pastimes can be quite so enjoyable as creating your own unique, personalized pendant.
