After La Savina, Formentera Spain

Monday, January 18th, 2010

If you want to see some serious money floating in the water then Formentera’s marina in the summer is the place to be. Alongside the standard ferries calling in at the port are some yachts that take your breath away. It is a far cry from the days when this natural harbor was used to export sabina pine.

The ferries that call at La Savina are from mainland Spain and other Balearic islands. Ferries come many ports, including: Altea, Alicante, Denia, Sant Antoni, Santa Eularia, Palma, and Barcelona. There are also boats that go from La Savina to the neighboring island of Espalmador.

When you are in La Savina you will find that there is a decent collection of restaurants, cafes and tapas bars. With a nice modern marina to look out on it’s worth chilling here for a bit. It is also a very practical village as you are able to hire and buy everything you might need for your stay on the island, from motorbikes to toilet paper. There is a tourist office on the dock, so just pop in and ask them for some help.

Just behind La Savina is the saltwater lagoon known as Estany des Peix. Its shallow warm waters are excellent for water sports. You don’t need to worry about big ferries getting in your way as only the narrowest boats fit into the channel that connects Estany des Peix to the sea. Estant Pudent and Es Trucadors are also close by La Savina.

The first destination for many people who arrive at La Savina is Es Pujols. This resort village has a great beach and warm shallow waters which are ideal for water sports. There is disabled access to the ocean and it is a very family friendly area. Whilst there are a lot of you tourists here it is not like the wild party atmosphere that you get in Ibiza.

Es Pujols main high street is Passeig des Plameres, but it is the promenade behind the beach that is more of an attraction – Avenida Miramar has market stalls set up where aging hippies try to sell enough to get by for the rest of the year.

When is comes to hotels formentera they can be hard to find. This article has some good analysis. visit: http://www.squidoo.com/hotels-formentera

Even though you may never need these items, it is still a good idea to have them on you, just in case.

Discover And Learn Some Cool Ways To Travel By Air Without High Costs And Enjoying Wonderful Spots

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

You’ve been looking forward to it for weeks. Your two kids have already packed their bags. Your wife has already hired the dog sitter for the dog. You have the tickets in your hand, and excitement shoots through your body like lightning, until you look at the costs of the tickets, and then you receive a real electric shock. It’s over five hundred dollars a person and you’re only traveling across the country! You begin to accept the false impression that in order to travel by air, you need to drill multiple holes in your wallet. But that’s because you got the wrong deal!

Tickets for you to travel across the world are offered by air companies who give you outrageous deals at outrageously low prices. But remember: low ticket prices are generally available according to the time of year and season.

When it comes to the price of the ticket, your preferred airline and location make all the difference. Even though their costs are dependent from place to place, you are given a way better rate if you purchase your spot many months in advance.

* How to obtain a cheap air trip. If you want to travel cheaply, you can save money constantly being in contact with airlines. Call them up, ask them about discounts, or look on their website(s), and review their deals weekly. Knowing when and how to access discounts can save you hundreds of dollars, and keep you informed of any new deals airlines have recently proposed.

* Also, airline salespersons and consolidators purchase tickets from airlines and resell them at lower prices so that you can save and reduce your stress. These are called “bucket shops”. Make sure, however, that you can find a ticket for your route. Booking in advance prevents others from stealing your seat.

* Different forms of airfare. When you take that first step and are saving your spot, you need to remember to make a quick view of the market and also choose the company that proposes the best deal for you. If you view the market, as you’re buying your ticket, you’ll see which company you should select your airfare from. Choosing a company that offers the lowest deal-you guessed it-saves you the most money.

Here you’ll see varying forms of airfare such as: – “Apex fares” – basically buying your ticket at a rate that’s much lower than the normal one because you booked in advance – “Discount fares” – discounted rates that are offered by airlines (e.g., British Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, etc.) for short periods of time – “Flexible fares” – You’ll find that with these fares, you’ll be digging into your wallet a bit, but you’re given beneficial refunds and changes on your ticket even the day you travel! These are known as full or unrestricted fares (because you pay the normal amount) – “Joint fares” – Through these rates, you have access to multiple airlines in order to do joint flights to locations around the world.

Everyone loves discounts, but if you’re a frequent flyer, you might want to look into booking your flights as early as possible, or if you’ve got short deadlines, maybe choosing a discount fare wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

If you don’t want to look online for too long, there are even websites that compare airline deals for you, or travel agents that will work to save you money. Spending just a little bit more time doing one of the suggested ideas above allowed you to save seventy percent of what you originally spent!

Travel vacations can be expensive if you don’t get the right advice. But for more useful ways to stay away from the irksome costs, look online at: Travelling By Air and Travel Tips

Five Top Reasons to Visit Greece

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Greece is considered the cradle of Western civilization for its many contributions. In politics, it is the birthplace of democracy and even political science. In sports, it is where the Olympic Games originated. In science and philosophy, it produced unparalleled minds like Euclid, Hippocrates, Archimedes, Pythagoras, Thales, Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, among others. Even in art and literature, Greece has much to show for. And if these are not enough to convince you to visit Greece, here are five reasons that surely will.

1. Ancient Monuments

Many people visit Greece just for its ancient monuments, which, for the civilization they represent, is reason enough. Indeed, though in ruins, each monument holds a charm of its own, transporting visitors back to a glorious age of gods and heroes. The most impressive and important monument of ancient Greece, the Parthenon, can be found in the Athens Acropolis, where you can also find the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erectheion, while the largest Greek temple, the Olympeion or Temple of Olympian Zeus can be found just outside. You will also find the Temple of Poseidon in Sounion in southern Athens.

If you are truly interested in archaeology, you shouldn’t stop at Athens, though, since there are many impressive sites and monuments in other cities, as well. In fact, some cities like Delphi, Delos and Olympia are archaeological sites in themselves. Some of the most remarkable monuments outside Athens include the Temple of Demeter at Naxos, the Temple of Epicurian Apollo at Vassae and the ruins of the Knossos Palace in Crete.

If you’d rather just see ancient Greek sculptures, though, or the artifacts that were excavated from these sites, you should visit the archaeological museums in Greece, starting with the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, which has the finest collection, including the Mask of Agamemnon and Praxiteles’ statue of Aphrodite.

2. Beaches

Warm, turquoise waters, white sand, a dramatic backdrop and excellent facilities – you will find these in most Greek beaches, which is why they are considered among the best in the world. Myrtos Beach in Kefalonia, Trahili Beach in Chios and Navagio Beach in Zakynthos top the list, although there are dozens of other Blue Flag beaches. If you want to take your clothes off, there are nudist beaches in Greece, too, like Banana Beach in Skiathos and if you brought your snorkelling equipment, you will find many sea caves to explore. In fact, no matter what kind of beach you have in mind, you’re sure to find it in Greece.

3. Greek Cuisine

Greek food is often described as healthy, so make sure you get your fill when you visit Greece. This is because olives and olive oil are widely used, most of which are grown and produced in Kalamata and Crete. There are many vegetable dishes, too, such as Greek Salad, baked beans and cabbage rolls, although meat dishes like oven-baked lamb, Gyros (roasted meat) and Souvlaki (skewered meat) are also popular. As for desserts, many are made with nuts and honey, the most popular one being Baklava, while wine is the most common drink. In fact, there are some that say wine originated in Greece.

4. Greece by Night

While Greece is a country steeped in history, it definitely does not live in the past, as you will see for yourself when you visit Greece. In contrast to the quiet of its ancient monuments, Greece has a large number of clubs and bars where you can dance, drink or simply listen to all types of great music all night, even until seven in the morning if you want, especially in Athens, Mykonos, Skiathos, Rhodes and Samos.

5. Movie Locations in Greece

Are you a movie buff? If so, you should definitely visit Greece, where several great movies were filmed. These include the James Bond movie ‘For Your Eyes Only’ which featured the spectacular Aghia Triatha monastery at Meteora, ‘Shirley Valentine’ which was filmed mostly on Mykonos, ‘Zorba the Greek’ which has scenes filmed in Crete and recently, ‘Mamma Mia!’ with some scenes shot on Skopelos and the Pelion coast of mainland Greece.

Should You Listen To The Advice Of Mississippi Cruise Critics?

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

If you have been thinking about going on a Mississippi cruise, do you know that there are knowledgeable and independent cruise critics whose job it is to help you find the best trip for you? These experts can be of invaluable help in comparing the different kinds of cruises.

A good cruise critic will tell you all the salient details of a specific Mississippi cruise. From booking the trip to getting on to the ship, to the sights and activities that you will be able to do once you have boarded, to food and accommodation.

The boarding available on your potential Mississippi cruise will be discussed at length. The critics love to tell how large the cabins are (or are not) and what is in the quarters. Little extras like a bath instead of a shower, or decorations and fittings are topics of attention

The critics tell about every day of their trip as they go about their activities and use the special facilities like health spas and steam rooms. By telling you what they find to be good and bad about the activities and services on the ships, they are also telling you what is considered normal in a Mississippi cruise.

A good Mississippi cruise critic will also be upfront about things such as tipping, and his expert opinion may vary from what you may be asked on once on the ship. By reading one or several reviews, you will know what’s expected and will not risk over-tipping.

After reading a critic’s review, you may end up choosing another ship. Also, you may find out that you have the option of paying your tips upfront so you do not have to worry about them later.

Another thing that you will get a lot of information about when reading the comment of a Mississippi cruise critic is the quality and abundance of food served on board. You will be able to sample your way through a cruise’s menu even before having set foot on to the boat.

While these are often optional, Mississippi cruise critics will usually participate in shoreline trips too, to give you a better idea of the additional activities that you can expect to be offered during the voyage.

You can appreciate from their reviews whether the shore excursions were fun for the critics. However, the critics will explain their reactions to the excursions in such a manner that you will be able to see if your estimation might differ.

Being highly experienced on the subject, a Mississippi cruise critic will also be able to give you pointers on the ship itself. Is it comfortable and well-appointed, or a re you about to board a leaky and humid vessel? This point is going to make a huge difference on the enjoyment of your Mississippi cruise.

No site but MississippiCruiseGuide.com gives you all the tips and info on Mississippi Cruise Critics and related subjects. Whether you are new to the topic or an expert, make sure to learn more about Mississippi Cruise Options by following the links above !
